クリスマスの日の25日に私のNPOで外国人のALTの先生たちとまたまた塾生の小4生と保護者さんが集まり今回は総勢30人で日本の伝統行事の継承と国際交流目的の「餅つき」をしました。
Good morning my dear friends.
On the day of Christmas 25th, my NPO held a Mochi pounding event with 9 ALT and my Juku kids and their mothers, totally 30 people in order to pass down our Japanese tradition and to have a international cultural communication.
最近では、スーパーにいくらでもお餅を売ってるし、機械の餅つき機もありますが、昔ながらの石臼と杵の伝統的なやり方でしました。外国人にとっても私たち日本人にとっても新しいことにチャレンジし、伝統文化を守る気持ちで楽しく和気藹々とできました。
Recently we can buy Mochi anywhere at a supermarket or so. We can also use a Mochi making mashine.
However, I highly respect the traditional way to make Mochi using a wooden pestle and a millstone. We all excited to make Mochi that way as you can see the videos here.

外国人の先生方も子供たちも張り切って取り組んでました。
Foreign teachers and kids were all excited about it.
力強く杵でついていた父の姿を思い出しながら、餅米の蒸らしかたは、Google 検索しながら、そして参加者に助けて頂きながら、楽しく6升の餅米を約2時間半でつき上げました。

We did all 6 times of Mochi pounding for 2 and a half hours.
もちろんつきたてのお餅を安倍川餅や磯部巻きやぜんざいで美味しく頂きました。
Of course, we ate fresh rice cake in several ways while it’s hot.
It was sooo delicious.
そして最後に一おりづつお土産のお餅をお持ち帰り頂きました。
Finally, each person was given a pack of Mochi before going home.
今年の反省点をまた来年の餅つきに活かしたいと思います。
Considering a few important things, I’d like to try next year as well.
